Hansen Land Brokers Inc. is a boutique land brokerage firm. Our project-oriented approach allows us to spend more time, effort and resources on each individual property and client, giving us the best possible chance of achieving a positive result.

We have 27 years of experience brokering Land Based Assets - Agricultural, Development, Investment and Transitional Lands.

Over the decades we have been trusted to buy and sell land-based assets for some of the most prominent and long-time land owners in the Province of Alberta.




In 1992, Shawn Hansen earned his realtor’s licence and began working for Rural Properties Ltd (RPL). RPL was an agricultural real estate firm owned by the Highwood Livestock Market and Berrien Associates, an agricultural appraisal company. Within a short time, Shawn became the managing partner and broker for the company and has been a Land Broker in the agricultural, development, investment and transitional land sectors ever since. Shawn was the second land broker in Western Canada to achieve the Accredited Land Consultant designation from the Realtors Land Institute headquartered in Chicago Illinois.

  • In 2011 Shawn became the second Land Broker in Western Canada to receive the Accredited Land Consultant designation from the Realtors Land Institute, located in Chicago Ill.

  • An Auctioneer since 1981, Shawn volunteers for numerous charitable auction events.

  • Serves as a Commissioner for Oaths as well as a Notary Public.

  • Member of the Calgary Real Estate Board, and the Alberta and Canadian Real Estate Associations.

  • Involved with the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede since 1995 (Former member, then Chair of the International Agricultural Committee, and Member of Livestock Auctioneers Committee.) He remains a shareholder and senior associate with the organization to date.

  • In 2004, Stars Air Ambulance recognized Shawn for his 10-year commitment as Auctioneer for the organization’s annual Starlight Starbright fundraising evening gala. 

  • Member of the Auctioneers Association of Alberta, as well as the National Auctioneers Association



In 2018 Wendy J Holloway joined as our assistant and then our Broker with 11 years experience as a Top Producer in Residential Real Estate. Her strong organizational and marketing skills have proved to be invaluable in forming our own Brokerage in October of 2018 and increasing the volume of projects that we undertake. She oversees the marketing of each project as well as managing all aspects of our team.



In 2019 we welcomed Wyatt Hansen as our newest Associate. This up-and-comer has the privilege of learning from the best by working with his dad in the Land business. He is a strong asset to our company in writing up contracts, handling our website and implementing most of our marketing tasks. 



Stacey has just joined our office in February 2020. Her strong administrative skills are coveted by our group. Not only is she a strong communicator and extremely organized, but she is detail-oriented and  she keeps our team cohesively achieving our goals.


Hansen Land Brokers (HLB) has enjoyed significant success facilitating some of the province’s largest brokered land sales. Over the past almost three decades HLB has brokered over a half a billion dollars in land sales. Some of these transactions include such notable sales such as the Tomahawk Ranch, a 13,500 acre ranch west of Edmonton that sold for more than $18,000,000, the FM2 Ranch on the Bow River that traded for $24,000,000. HLB was privileged to work with Western Feedlots Ltd to help them market their High River holdings of more than 1800 acres along the Highwood River for north of $10,000,000.00.

Hansen has been fortunate to work with and along side some of Alberta’s most respected farm and ranch families up and down the eastern slopes of the Rocky Mountains.  The Round Up Ranch located in the Porcupine Hills was one of these projects, selling 7500 acres for over $16,000,000 as was the Gardner Ranch west of Calgary that comprised of more than 1400 acres and settled in at a sale price just over $33,000,000.

Just as important are the prime farmland sales we’ve been a part of over the decades, helping land-owners market thousands of acres of good productive cultivated land, from a quarter section to large tracts, dry-land or irrigated lands.

We have assisted in marketing investment land, development land, and transitional lands along with recreational properties in all shapes and sizes.

In addition, Shawn has been involved in several of Western Canada’s largest “land auctions”, including the “Maurice King Estate”, an internationally publicized auction that sold 5000 acres of Southern Alberta’s Porcupine Hills, and the sale of the Historical Kirk Ranch at Radium, British Columbia.   More recently, HLB saw a 100% sell out of 39 lake lots that were offered on the Auction block in the sale of West Lake Estate located at Gull Lake Alberta.

HLB continues to offer the Auction method to market all classes of land-based assets, a method of selling real estate that has seen an increasingly upward trend over the past number of years.  No longer is it for the distressed and forced sale properties, now sellers are realizing that the auction process is another option to sell their assets to realize and maximize market value.

HLB is Continually Called on to consult with families, lawyers etc on estate planning and asset management.
